Daniel, that sounds terrific. It's been a while since I played Heretic, but your project could change that.

About contributing, while I'd love to be a part of this ambitious project, I don't know if I'd be able to do anything for several months because of my current work schedule. I'll check back with you later in the summer.

Good luck, man.

I already placed little hints here and there and I guess now it's time to make things more obvious and go public. For some time now, a few persons are working on the "Baker's Legacy - Texture Pack" over at ZDoom.org (link) and I already heard several people talking about the inspiration they get from this pack. On the other hand, the Beastiary is still growing and hopefully many new Heretic-style monsters start to get posted. In my eyes, we have a huge amount of useful material so it's time to give Heretic what it deserves: A fully ZDoom/GZDoom compatible community effort filled with countless new maps for that game.

Some of you might ask now: "Hey, don't we already have the Heretic Treasure Chest?" That's actually true, but for me it was more than disappointing. Yes, it does have several cool maps that are worth being played but in my eyes, the HTC doesn't bring you something new. Most of the maps which are finished by now simply reminded my of the old original Heretic episodes in terms of look, design and gameplay. That's nothing bad, but personally I would have expected more.

That's why we are starting something similar for Heretic now, a multi-map community project, but this time based on the powerful GZDoom/ZDoom engines to have the chance to bring something new into the world of Heretic: Slopes, Scripting, new content (monsters, weapons, ...) and other nice goodies that Vanilla Heretic isn't capable of. The game has so much potential, it deserves something new now.

So, if you are interested in some kind of contributions, no matter if it's maps, testing, actors, sprites, gfx's or textures, this is the right time to join! The development forum can be accessed at http://www.hpack.tk , bookmark this url now! There you will also find the usual information, just register (no email confirmation needed) and read the countless information topics I have already posted for some closer details.

I am really looking forward to this :)
