Well it was my idea....so...maybe it should'nt be me! I don't want to be the leader because im irresponsible and lazy. But I could happily contribute a random map that I have been working on,it runs on GZDoom of course

What really happens here with all the negativity, Barry, is a lot of people have seen many projects come and go, and it's very disappointing after you see it a number of times.

It is strange, it always looks like everyone stays so negative with most things, but it must probably be just because everyone stays very
serious about Doom. It is 16 years old, and most people would start forgetting games that old, but everyone should remember that
Id Software would be very proud to see that people still remember and enjoy their Doom and Doom2 games. People should start realizing
that this is only for fun, so for example this project can take as long as it should, there should never be a rush, that's why problems occur
and it doesn't seem like anyone ever stays positive about it. One man\woman should start making the plans and ideas of things like this so
that it won't look like it will just fall apart. I would think that something like this project should be like "ZPack-Random maps for ZDoom", which is also split up in episodes, but all together there are 30 levels with one secret level in each episode. That is the type of thing I was thinking about when I read this thread. If you don't now what is "ZPack-Random maps for ZDoom", it can be downloaded from this website, it was a plenty of people who made maps for Zdoom, and put it all together, and it looks like in the end it was successful.

Im not trying to ressurect an old thread Arch-Vile style, but i havent been online for a while due to being busy and only sleeping on my free time. But it seems like some people were really pumped to make this,and now that i think about it a megawad would be rediculous,but an 9 map episode would be pretty groovy :D If this topic gains interest again maybe we can start planning maps and guidelines for the episode! Only time will tell!

P.S. IM BACK EVERYONE!!!

GZDoom FTW! :)

i could maybe make a short little small map for this if it every gets off ground.

for a port i would say use GZDoom since Drdteam (atleast before) has been pretty much about Gzdoom.

Huge megawad is right out, this is not a huge community.

Making it a community project requires to establish some common ground. Such as:

* Base IWAD?
* Allowed resources?
* Target platform, i.e., Vanilla Doom, limit-removing, Boom-compatible, ZDoom-compatible, etc.
* Target game mode, i.e., single-player start-to-finish, single-player pistol starts, multiplayer coop, deathmatch, etc.
* Thematic elements for map design?

I mean, you won't go far if somebody provides a doom2.wad deathmatch map, somebody else a GZDoom-exclusive Hexen map, a third made a Doom 1 Eternity map full of linked portals, and a fourth made something for Doomsday/Risen3D full of models.

Marry me? lol

Ok, seriously....

I had two different experiences recently, one of them with a great community project and the other with a personal project. Both well received!
So, nobody will discourage me/us to do something so easily. xD

I'll spend most of my free time on it and show something done in January!

Happy Holidays! :cheers:

Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do this.

Don't get this wrong though: it is very hard to manage a successful community project, set goals and deadlines, and motivate people - but it CAN be done. People who are saying that "this won't work" have experience in other projects where this has not been successfully done - but if you keep to your objectives, you will succeed.

Start with a project that can be done by a single person, and as you add people, let it grow from there.
