I'd really suggest avoiding fonts with serifs because it looks very classic-styled. Fonts without any serifs and a clear style look much more modern and that might fit much better with GZDoom as it is a very modern port after all.

That is all.

I think when you look at this logo, it should really represent what GZDoom is actualy about.
What sets it apart from other ports and what makes it special.
Instead of concentrating mainly on Doom and the other core games for its design, it should reflect its stronger points, like how much freedom it offers through its many functions and how it lets you express yourself.
Because most of the wads and projects that people make are original ideas and they don't specificaly tie into Doom or Hexen.
I only thought of this when I saw Tormentors latest design with the painted GZ.
It kinda reminds me of graffin and thats about expresion, so it ties in with that ideology in a way.
This is how I see it.

No offense, but that looks like a wall graffiti if you ask me

I think that's the point.
I have to say, I don't think that the graffiti works particularly well as a logo, but I do think that the reasoning behind it makes a lot of sense.
I do quite like baghead's squarish logos though. A nice simple approach.

Based on ideas and work done by Tormentor667, how's this?

I already suggested brackets to emphasize the coding aspect. Here are some ideas :

Out of laziness, I decided to stick with the Doom font.
Edit:Here's another one.

Well, Lord_Irving, you decided to be a critic for our logos, now it's my turn. I don't like your ideas, even if they may not be actual logos.
Those really don't work for me. For one, the brackets are really out of place. The top one might be the better of the two, except for the over-emphasized "GZ" in "GZDOOM." And the bottom one makes absolutely no sense at all - G and Z surrounding the DOOM? It's been stated before that neither G or Z should be really emphasized, but rather should fit in smoothly with the rest of the logo. Oh, and the brackets - well, sorry, but they just simply don't fit. You might want to put them in to emphasize that "coding" sense, but they have no place in a logo like that, in my opinion. At all. My comments for the first 2 will also explain pretty clearly why I don't like the third one.

You almost got me Well, it's different with id though. Id software is part of the business now for over 2 decades and their logo has changed a lot in this time. Can you remember the good old "Commander Keen" times in the 80's:
Spoiler:
The logo was completely without any serifs making it look very technical and illustrational actually. In times of Wolfenstein 3D and Doom, id's logo slightly changed looking more classic:
Spoiler:
And even some years later - I guess it was between Quake 1 and Quake 2 - it got this used, rusty look that it still got now:
Spoiler:
Now why all those changes? Well, the only person who actually knows that is id software's marketing management but it's also possible to guess the intention behind this: The first logo - as already discussed here - without the serifs and with its very modern and typical 80's look was supposed to give the impression of a modern and innovative group of developers the customer and those who bought their games. In the 90's when id software developed Wolf3D and Doom, there was actually a trend to use serifs and stuff that looked more "detailed and complex" compared to the 80's that were much simpler and more plain. To keep up with the time, id software might have decided to rework their logo and adjusting it to the mode-trends in terms of design and look. Another thing could have been the fact that id software already had a good reputation on gamers and maybe they wanted to go for something more classic and serious, giving the impression that id is already around for ages and still there. That's also the point that explains why the graphical forms of this logo stayed until today, the only difference - the rust and destroyed parts of the logo - making the thing look even more used and "classic". Well, but that's only my guess overall
Nevermind, it's mainly that id already has got a very long story behind its logo development and GZDoom is just at its beginning so you can't compare those two things. It's like sausages and potatoes.

I like your sincerity. One of my previous roughs involved the opposite : the G and Z inside the first and second O's of DOOM. But if you want all letters equal, well I'll see what I can do. I think my logos could work with different fonts, though...I'm gonna try a few stuff. TO THE PAINTMOBILE !Dundundundundundundundundun.....

Hey, it wouldn't hurt if you spent a bit of time on your concept, no matter how basic.
Try this: GIMP is a free powerfull editing program which you can download.
Play around with it and you may even surprise yourself.
I'm starting to run out of ideas... and good fonts.
Hope you like this one.
(In my opinion this is probably the best one I've done.)
It wasn't intentional, but it looks kinda like a shotgun...

I like that one Morpheus, but I would only use the gray square, the rest doesn't just fits IMO.
