In GZDoom.
However, if GZDoom isn't starting in OpenGL mode by default, I suspect there is something about your system that is preventing it: like not having a graphics card that supports it.
Try right clicking on the desktop and select properties. Pick the settings tab and see what it says under "Display:". You should be able to find out what card you have there.
No.
'Options' -> 'Display Options' -> 'Enable OpenGL System'.

Googled it and already the first link went to something that deals with GL software not being able to run on the card. In that case I have to consider it a hopeless case.

My apologies. If OpenGL is enabled, then the disable command is where I said the enable one is. However, with OpenGL disabled, there is no OpenGL menu (not too surprisingly) and the enable command is in its place, just as you said.

Exactly.
The 'Disable OpenGL System' option is located where you said.

Well, judging by what Enjay said on the last page, you could always try opening the ini file for GZDoom and changing "gl_vid_compatibility" to true, and seeing if that would allow it to work.
If I'm not mistaken, that lowers GZDoom's requirements to use OpenGL mode, so even though you won't get access to all the fancy OpenGL features, you could at least get some of them.
