OK, so the new Acolyte model looks a bit like a lego figure in those screenshots but I quite like it and it's nice to see someone doing stuff for Strife, rather than Doom, even if the Acolyte is standing in a Doom map. ;)

Go get MilkShape; it's so much better than Gmax (In my opinion). It took me forever to learn nothing in Gmax, and I figured out MilkShape in the first five minutes of using it. Just a thought from a fellow modeler. :D

Yeah, I see what ya mean. 'Course, I was just trying to concentrate on making something decent and succeeding, rather than "amazing", and failing miserably. Besides, no one was showing off GZdoom's awesome ability to support 3D actors, so what the hell, eh? :D

Oh, and Graf, implement 3D support for weapons! Puh-leeeze!

Make him add frame interpolation first

Actually, for some VERY strange reason, I kinda like it without interpolation... Probably 'cause of my cheap way of doing the firing animations for my Acolyte.

But yeah, that too.

Paul, for that HUD sprite, in what format is that PNG in? 8-bit+alpha or 24-bit+alpha?

I'm getting all kinds of stupid artifacts and problems using 24+A.

Using 8+A is worse because when I run my 24+A PNG through PNGQUANT, it looks fine in Adobe ImageReady CS but looks like shit in GZDoom (random colours and pixel mess), even when imported using Raw Data.

Jive, that looks pretty good, but those brackets are resting on nothingness. You need to put a thin strip of floor/ceiling to connect each lower bracket to the one on top of it.

No offense, but I don't seem to see anything in Jive's screenshot that can't be done outside of GZDoom?

On the other hand, if that structure was entirely made up of thick, solid-looking 3-d floors...

It's a 24 bit + alpha, but alpha transparency (and translucency) is not properly supported in sprites yet (it's also jerky in model skins, I dunno about textures. Hudmessages and menus go fine). See my thread:
http://forum.drdteam.org/viewtopic.php?t=1755

The weapon flash uses a hack-it's printed on the screen with a hudmessage when the gun fires

Code: Select all

Fire:
PIS4 E 1 BRIGHT A_Light1
PIS4 F 1 BRIGHT ACS_Execute(230,0,1,0,0)
Also, Cyrez's hud = win

Dammit! I know this, but I can't remember the name :(. I played the WAD years ago. It may even be old enough to be an original vanilla WAD(?). I remember thinking "how the hell" the first time I played it though. It was a very impressive WAD and one of the first to use effects of this kind and still one of the few to do it as effectively.

Sorry to steal your entire post, but that is almost exactly what I was thinking when I saw that shots. And IIRC, it was a vanilla WAD. I played it when it was brand spanking new, but sure can't remember what it was called. Another cool lindef trick it had at the time where those tanks, that rested on supports up in the air. Looked damn near 3d.

You are all posting in the wrong forum...
Mine if in the other section for screenshots!!!

That said, you must have in mind that GZW will be a site dedicated to GZDoom Wads specific AND compatibles... And this one was a wad for Boom.
It was a good way to test the compatibility (of course) AND the way to handle Boom features...

You mean that we should post discussion on your screenshot in the thread you posted it at? Unfortunately, that's impossible, as Graf will most likely delete such posts the moment he sees them.

Right, one section is for screen shots only, the other is for discussion about said screenshots. Feel lucky that we are discussing it at all...

Keep the screenshots thread clean of discussion. The fact that there are 3 pages of screenshots and 12 pages of discussion clearly shows that it wouldn't be a good idea to keep both together in one thread.

Oh yes, I understand now why there is 2 sections!!!
Sorry to have forgotten this message of Graf explaining it, but you SHOULD have in mind that I'm a newbie with this forum, and a friendly explanation is always easy to give... You SHOULD think a little bit about the difficulty for me to take the train when he is on full speed...

WHAT ??????????????

I was pleased to SHARE with you something.
Feel lucky that I put my screenshots so that it's like a game for you to discover from which wad it is extracted. This structure is very special and was built by a great mapper. It's like a part of the Doom history, and I thought that it could be funny to don't tell you, in a first time, who is the author.

Those screenshots were ONLY a gift, nothing else!!!
Such a comment is incredible!
