Is the skybox the only thing that makes this a GZDoom map?
[edit]Oh wait, some reflective floors....

Even more, reflective floors, skybox, true color textures, special sector lights (would look ugly in 8bit mode), 3d floors and other things

IMO, subtle use of GZDoom features is a good thing. If people are thinking you didn't use many of them when in fact you did, they are probably well integrated with the structure of the map rather than being in your face features for feature's sake. Of course, it's always nice to have a bit of wow factor too - and this map has that IMO.

I second Enjay about the features.

Well, your map certainly makes up for the perceived shortage of GZDoom features here.

I think some gentle orange haze would enhance the effect of a desert

Just so you know, you are getting relentlessly bagged on by the guys on IRC for that shot.

That doesn't surprise me at all. It got quite negative reactions on Doomworld and ZDoom.org as well - which is quite well deserved if you ask me.

The colors in that new screenshot are kinda hard on the eyes. There's to much brown and orange, not enough color variation. In my opinion, to make this look more like a sequel to Sapphire, you should make it look more like the planet in Sapphire's skybox. From looking at the skybox, the planet seems to have quite a bit of water, and a lot of green mountains. I think giving it a theme like that, and using similar color usage to what Sapphire had, should make this look more like a true sequel.
