I see your cleaning up your mod quite a bit. I may have to do the same with mine. How is it a mod can get so cluttered code wise? Just keep up the good work though.

I actually haven't started the coding work yet. I always try to have all the graphics completed before starting on the code. That way, if I have to do clean up like I am doing now, I just have to delete some graphics and move things around. But yes, I'm trying to avoid clutter with this update.

I think I'm not going to use the carryable health idea for now. It's a little overambitious for the scope of this project. I might implement it in a future wad, though! As a result, I'm replacing the health category with heavy weapons. That means the IGE is returning, baby, with improved graphics and other what nots!

I did the same with my mod. I got all the prelim graphics in place. But because new weapons have been piling on both graphics and coding wise I am being forced into having to cut and clean up my mod. I already had to rip out a pair of useless Uzis and a AutoMag Pistol.

I usually get all the "essential" graphics first, like individual weapon sprites, then I start duplicating/shifting the in-between frames as I code it. It's a little messy, yes, but it's just the way I am.

After a long hiatus, I have some bad news, but also some good. I'll start with the bad stuff first:

*While installing and messing around with games on my computer, a bunch of stuff got wiped off my hard drive. The casaulties included a folder of Doom sprites, some for the new version of Commandos!, and other stuff I had been working on but hadn't transfered to this computer yet. It also wiped out my Milkshape directory, which was filled with some models I had tinkered around with, GRR. I decided to install AVG and do a virus scan, as it had been YEARS since I last performed one on my computer. 96 Trojan Horses turned up as a result.

I have no idea if this was the reason for the wipe, but since my computer is no longer on the internet, the Trojans really can't be of any use to anyone. It really pissed me off though. However, the graphics that I had been working on are not completely gone, as they are still on my father's laptop that I used while I was visiting relatives. It's only a matter of transfering them from his laptop to this computer.

*I've decided to take a short break from weapon modding to learn how to make 3D models, especially lower poly ones and models for weapon modifications. I know this will dissappoint some as I had just posted after a hiatus, and now I'm going to take a break. The reason for this is partially due to frustration with the file wipe on my computer. It killed some of the enthusiasm I had for Commandos: Re-Action. Another reason for this break is that I'm starting to get fed up with using rips for my mods. It's not that I can't make the rips more unique or that there is not an abundance of them, but I just thought I would try and make some of my own weapons for once, without relying on other's work. I could make the weapons using the good ol' vanishing point technique used by NMN, but it's very time consuming and I know if can learn how to model, I can streamline the process.

However, as a result of this, I have some good news! Here it is:

*After I am done learning how to model, I will definitely start work on Commandos again! I think that if I make some completely unique weapons for Commandos using models, it will only help the mod. I might even make a mini weapons mod using nothing but models especially made for the project. I was inspired by Ravage's AUTO weapons mod, and I feel with enough time I can make great graphics that are free of the problems normally associated with model rips.

*I saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Gieco! j/k

That's it for now. I'll try to keep you updated with my progress as it happens. Until then. :)

You see, this is why it's good to A: make wad non-xwe back-ups and B: to send out betas. :P

EDIT: What do you mean by ravage's auto weapons mod? Link?

AUTO

Mini Review:
It's basically a mini mod, with only minor dehacked changes, but the weaponry graphics are really cool, especially the chaingun replacement. Most of the weapons are well animated, and although plain looking like most model based weapons, get the job done. It doesn't do anything drastic, but it's fun none the less.

A note to any would be rippers of this mod: Ask Ravage before using any of his resources. It states in the readme file that the mod is not to be used as a base for further modifications.

Alright, work has resumed on Commandos: Re-Action, but I still haven't gotten back into the swing of working on this. Due to some personal issues best left unsaid, I was unable to start training myself to make 3D models, and have decided to resume 2D and sprite work instead. I'd rather finish this project first before experimenting with 3D Models, anyway. :D

Currently Working On:
*Shotgun Graphics - First frame finished
*Revolver Graphics - Need to start work on reloading frames
*Design Document - Need to finish adding weapon entries, fixing typos and other formatting issues

Other Stuff:
*Working on Sword Graphics for Apothem

Snarb, I would like to submit 3 weapons for your project please.

Posted: Thu Dec 01, 2005 20:08
by Snarboo
Sure! The only thing I ask before you submit anything is that you give me a description of the weapon, which explains how it functions, how it looks, and what its name is (like, say, you submit a pistol; I would like you to give me a name for the weapon that sounds like something the military might call it, such as the "Joker" MR13 Pistol). The reason I'm asking for this is because I would want to integrate the weapon into the readme, which will have detailed weapon descriptions. Also, please include pickup graphics. I know you probably will, just a precaution. :)

How does one go about submitting weapons?
