Too much sleep?

We all know sleep is required for all of us, but how much of it? Statistics say that man oughta sleep at least 8 hours daily ([ellmo] statistics mean shit[/ellmo] ) but how does it apply to personal units?
For myself, I'm kinda puzzled. Usually I sleep per 6 hours (from 12 pm to 6 am) but I'm often tired and sleepy rest of the day, being driven on cofeine. Only today I made an experiment of going to bed without any getting up restrictions. I slept from 12 pm to... 13 am

is this normal? I mean I did often sleep 10 hours during the holidays, but 12 hours is simply too much. And my head is still spinning.
How does handling Morpherus applies to you?

Sleep differs between age and personal need. In this case the statistics are more a recommendation than anything. Some people need 8 hours to function properly throughout the day, some about 4 (and only a very few need less than 4 or more than 8 ). Personally, I sleep about 4-6 hours a day, but I kinda have insomnia and drink more caffiene a day than is healthy. So I'm not surprised.
In your experiment, the sleeping for most of a day is simply caused by an extreme lack of sleep over a long period of time (or something like that). While its not normal per se, its not something to worry about. Happens to me if I dont drink caffiene for a whole day.
And whats Morpherus?

Pardon a typo, Morpheus. Mythical god of sleep.

Weekdays: Usually between 4 and 6 hours.
In the weekends: ~12 hours.

I get roughly 7-8 hours on a school night and 10-12 on regular day. The thing with me is that I am dead tired at like noon with 7-8 hours but if I get a week of 10-12 hours of sleep then I start to have a hard time going to sleep.

I usually go to bed anywhere from 10pm-12am and wake up at 7am weekdays and usually after midnight and wake up anywhere from 7am-12pm on weekends.

Isn't it dreams? Sorry, not meaning to be pedantic.

Yeah, the god of sleep is Hypnos, Morpheus' father.

24 hours is too much - 12 is not enough

8 hours is not nearly enough for the average teen. 9-10 is sufficient (lest I fall asleep during health class - something that actually happened to me a few times).

I sleep roughly 8 hours every night (4:00 AM-5:00 AM ~ 12:00 PM-1:00 PM)
A few days this week, I slept for only about 5-6 hours, and wound up sleeping for ~10 hours after the chunk of sleep-lacking nights. I've been trying to ease myself to not need as much sleep, but my body is rather hesitant to not sleep as long. Oh well, it happens, I guess.
Either way, sleep is very important, and your brain needs a certain amount of it in order to function properly.
