Problems with GZDoom and NVidia driver version 185.xx

Anyone having display errors with recent GZDoom versions should check the installed driver. I had problems with NVidia's 185.xx version that made the shaders fail to compile which results in all kinds of errors. Please make sure you have 190.62 installed which appears to work fine.

Ouch! Thanks for the "heads up". Just as well I hadn't got around to updating. I meant to check for new drivers last night but didn't get around to it.

By the time I'd heard of thew 196.75 drivers, they'd been taken down already. I am a little surprised they just took it down, without a note on the drivers page as to why.

LOL, and I thought ATI were the only ones making shitty drives... I guess this one was more like insufficient beta testing or something... but anyway.

It's not really the lack of beta testing (although, it's a head scratcher how this was not noticed), but WHQL tests are to make sure the Direct3D portion is working fine. However, it doesn't test actual usage (eg. game scenarios with 100% load). People who were most affected where those that use auto-fan temp cooling with "non-standard coolers" (translation: custom coolers). You have to be very careful to mess with fan speeds when you have temp monitoring sensors on the video card.

In sum, someone really goofed @ NVidia.

Anyone tried the new 197.13 drivers yet?

I'm using the 197.15 beta drivers which also implement OpenGL 3.3. No problems so far but also no speed improvements. For now 196.21 should be ok and there's no need to update.

I missed your post and decided to give the 197.13 drivers a whirl. So far so good. certainly no problems. GZdoom has been fine and I have played a few other games with them too. I can't say for definite, because I hadn't benchmarked the other games, but my feeling is that there may be a little speed improvement with some of them.
