GZDoom 1.4.2 released
Posted: Sun Jan 24, 2010 11:05
by Graf Zahl
This updates GZDoom to ZDoom v2.4.1 and also fixes a few bugs:
- sprite display on older graphics cards works again
- sprites with an alpha channel again display as intended
- Maps containing FraggleScript could crash when playing sounds
- some rare crashes with changing a ScriptedMarine's skin.
Important note:
Beginning with this release there won't be downloadable source packages anymore. With a public SVN server I don't see much use in them as they only make some less informed people get outdated sources instead of the most recent development code and due to the time needed to prepare them they always have been a delaying factor for new releases so I hope that in the future there'll be more frequent official releases.
In case somebody needs a specific version they can all be found and downloaded from the tags/ directory on the SVN server.

Excellent news. Thanks for this release. Those few bugs that slipped through in the last one were quite annoying. Good to see them addressed. Hope you had a good trip.
The new source release policy makes sense too IMO.

hello, I have a doubt that since the version 1.40 of GZDoom, that no longer get the message "Scret area found" when you discover a secret area?, but no sound is heard xD
greetings and thanks

Still works for me.
A suggestion: In your ini there should be a line like this:
Code: Select all
secretmessage=A Secret is revealed!
Perhaps that has been edited at some point?

By any chance have you looked at the problem that I mentioned on the
ZDooM forums? This is a ZDooM issue, of course, but I wonder if you might be able to take a crack at it. Thanks.

Just a simple typo. I don't think it'd be possible to downgrade GZDoom to ZDoom 1.4.1; assuming this version even existed at all.

Well, fixed.

This is news after all so it should be correct...

Great. Tarballs are for stable releases. Having to co svn makes it pot luck which bugs you get. This project is easily the most inaccesible thing around.

If you want a specific version, that's what the tags are for. And as far as bugs go, you've got plenty of them in official releases as well.

Cough.
I ~can~ see Graf's reasoning though, but jeez... no Linux binary. And for the source : latest fmod, cmake, not much of a web site to speak off, other system deps (and of course gcc and headers) and now a 50meg subversion check out.

Of course not. For some strange reason this seems to be a big no no when distributing Linux software so you can blame this squarely at the Linux community which seems to do everything in their power to both discourage it and make it technically inconvenient.
stevenaaus wrote:And for the source : latest fmod, cmake,
So what? You only need to install these once. Shall I resort to inferior tools just because it's an inconvenience to you?

Care to make me a better one? I'm not a web designer and don't have time to invest here.
stevenaaus wrote:

Can't be helped. If you are bothered by such things Linux is clearly not the right OS for you.

Excuse me? The latest version was 18 MB uncompressed, not 50.
