Ubuntu 10.04: screen transitions missing

Not sure if this is a bug or if I'm just doing something wrong, but I'm using the 256.44 Nvidia driver from the x-updates PPA and the screen wipe effects are missing. There is just a long pause and it jumps to the next screen, does anyone know what's going on? Video card is an AGP Nvidia Ge-Force 7800 GS 256mb.
Edit: Forgot to mention I did add the glex.h and wglex.h files to the same directory the rest of the opengl headers were, I think it's /usr/include/GL but I'd have to check.
