I came across some ut2004 skyboxes made by Hazel H. and I decided to experiment with them and then I made clones of these skyboxes to GZdoom! Now here we have 12 6 sided skyboxes that look great ingame.

How can I extract the textures from the .utx file? I don't have any Unreal / UT tools to do it.

After I get through all this hw, I'll make skyboxes with the rest of the textures.
You need unrealed to access utx files, which comes with ut2004.

Shit! I'd really like to extract the pictures. Is there no other way to get them?

I can make a zip of all the dds files in the utx.
I am currently making skyboxes of the rest of the set as I speak.
edit: once im done with the skyboxes I'll make 2 zips. One with the pngs I used and one with the wads.

Nope. Gotta use the highly unstable UnrealEd tools.

Wow, this is awesome. I gotta look at some free skybox places like at PlanetQuake or something.

Wow! These are stunning, absolutely stunning. It's a shame that so many of them feature water in the middle, it kind of limits their usability I think. But yes, really amazing.
I think some people have released stand-alone tools at various times for ripping stuff out of Unreal resource files. However, with all versions of Unreal shipping with a version of UnrealEd, there has never been a great need for 3rd party tools.

Unless you want to use them in another game and don't happen to own a version of UnrealEd that works...

I just downloaded your PNG set. However, after closer inspection I had to conclude that these skyboxes are not particularly suitable for Doom. They are all rendered in a way that the important imformation is too low. In a normal Doom level you normally only see the sky unless you lower the viewpoint. But that distorts the perspective.
Pity.

Damnit... I take it the skyboxes require OpenGL mode?

If you use the 6 sided versions they still look rather interesting in game. I applied one of them into MAP01.
