[0.9.3] Can't run the program at all...

When I run the gzdoom.exe, It opens up a new, blank window, and then dumps to a crash log.

It's weird because I could at least run it in software mode before, but now it won't even do that...

Any ideas? I'm thinking it's my crappy computer, but I don't know if the crashlog can tell you what the problem is or not... I have an ATI 128 Pro card, and I don't have any problems running timmie's port (albeit slowly).

Sorry for the vague report, but there isn't really anything else I can tell you.

The crash happens deep inside the graphics driver when the program is trying to get some OpenGL information for the very first time. Up until that point only the WAD files and the game configuration have been initialized but absolutely nothing hardware specific.

Best delete your .ini file. Maybe some setting got corrupted that your driver doesn't like.

I've tried that...

The .ini is the default one that's created with one line added to add the path to the folder with all of my IWADs in it.

Maybe my drivers are screwed up. I'll try reinstalling them.

When I did that, it would crash as soon as I tried to start a level (title screen would display fine though).

I finally just had to put both IWADs into GZDooms directory, and then the problem went away.

Sucks, but it works for now. You might want to try the same to see if it fixes your problem as well.

GZDoom crashes if it loads a ZDoom.wad from ZDoom. That is most likely caused by starting it in the wrong directory. Since ZDoom is rather stupid when it comes to loading ZDoom.wad I have renamed it for the next version to GZDoom.wad to avoid any conflicts.

I have no problems loading the IWADs from my main ports directory though.

Ok, then that fix was worth at least something. :)

Still, would you please post a console log. I'd like to see what the engine has to say about the problems it encountered.

The original 0.9.3 forced me into software mode; the test build worked fine in GL mode.

This was after reinstalling my video drivers...

Your card apparently doesn't support a stencil buffer. The new build retries in such a case without one. The game will run but some features will be disabled:

- skyboxes
- mirrors
- horizons
- multiple skies in one level

and the handling of missing upper/lower textures will be less efficient.

Ah. OK, that saves me a post then. I noticed some HOM-ish effects in some places in MAP04... I guess that's why. I guess I can live with some features missing until I finally get a new computer...
