Alright, stinky weasel-teats, you've had your fun with your new computer. Now it's time to come back and be social and productive, dammit! And always remember, if you ever need a beta tester, simply call on your dear brother. =)

(EDIT: Oops... I hate it when I start a new page.)

I've been meaning to get back to work on that Outlaws TC that I talked about last page (consdering I've drawn out a paper map of the first level), but I just don't feel like installing the game again to rip more graphics and enemies from it.

See, now the real question you have to ask is this... did I really ever leave? :P

(HINT: The answer is "yes".)

Also, still waiting to see what kind of progress has been made, as I know something's been done. Don't leave us in suspense, man!

Beyond the Grave...

It has been a while, yes. But I have returned once again.

Unnamed Wild West TC

Not exactly something to be writing in a journal about, but progress is progress - I made the difficulty settings graphics today. The five skill levels are:
1. Paint Your Wagon
2. The Shakiest Gun in the West
3. A Fistful of Dollars
4. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
5. Unforgiven

Ransom - The Stranger, Pt. 2

The eternal struggle, embodied in the twin revolvers. It was obvious that one was no better than the other. But nobody quite knew how far the guns would go.

They say that even a man that tries to do nothing but good in his life can be brought to the dark side in stressful situations. Perhaps a priest, desperate for food and shelter, decides to steal a loaf of bread. Or perhaps the downtrodden apartment dweller kills his landlord because he can't afford to make another payment.

But to see an effect like this on a supposedly inanimate object? Even Baphomet could never see it coming. Nor could Ransom, despite his best efforts in attempting to understand the two revolvers.

Ransom once again found himself cornered. He had long reasoned with himself that to combine the Tomes of Power with the already unfathomable power of Cain and Abel would be worse than suicide. Yet, like any other good man in the same situation, he came to his last resort.

His opponents, a legion of dark bishops of numbers far too large to count, slowly advanced upon him. Ransom quickly unstrapped the Tome from his back and flipped open to a random page. And then, he began chanting the runic symbols aloud until the world seemed to stop.

And with his final, punctuating word, Ransom left the aging book on the floor and reached for his revolvers.

But they were no longer revolvers.

It was a wonder that they still fit in their holsters. Cain and Abel had grown to over twice their size, practically reforging themselves in the process. They were still forming themselves as Ransom looked upon them.

Cain's barrel slowly elongated itself and formed a few crude ventilation holes. Immediately afterwards, Abel did the same. As one revolver strengthened, the other improved itself to match.

Neither better than the other.

A grin flashed upon Ransom's face as he raised both weapons to eye level and took aim. So this was the secret. The two brothers could never exceed each other - and so they only continued to match each other as they grew.

Baphomet was sure to curse the day he ever let the revolvers out of his grasp.

Ransom - The Stranger Part 2

I've been working on "modernizing" the structure of the wad file. Since last night, I've made the following major backend changes:
  • FSGLOBAL has been removed in favor of Global ACS. Ransom now works in ZDoom 2.1.3.
  • Most DoomEdNums have been changed to the "Replaces" keyword in DECORATE. If there are any Heretic/ZDoom maps that spawn Heretic objects through ACS, they are now properly replaced with Ransom objects.
  • Reloading system has been changed so that it no longer uses the Altfire button. I have revamped the reloading code to use a modified version of DoomRater's "Action_Reload" system that is also used in the Wild West TC.
I have also made the following aesthetic changes:
  • The Bastard Sword's sounds have been almost completely changed to those from The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and saved in OGG format, bringing the size of the wad file down a whole megabyte.
  • The sprites have been imported for the Tomed dual revolvers. I have also created sound effects, and intend to code it sometime this week.

Arent you using True Color PNGs? If so, even without the FSGLOBAL lump, I dont think it would work right in ZDoom

I'm deliberately avoiding true-color PNG's for Ransom. I am, however, using paletted PNG's for a few specific graphics. These will appear in the same palette as everything else in ZDoom.

Paletted as in Indexed Color? Or as in Doom's Palette?

Indexed color. And given that, I don't even have that many PNG's in the wad anyway at this point (probably only three or four).

O_O!Dude.......Cain and Abel already looked bad-ass. I can only imagine what they look like after the Tome of Power is used. Damn.....I SOOOOOOOOOOO want to see the GFX. PLZ POST! I promise I won't use them without some form of editing until Ransom - The Stranger Part 2 is released. And I like the AltFire reload. More than my version using A_GiveInventory. Bring it *drawn out moan-ish sound*bah-ack.

Personally I would rather not have alt-fire on reload so that I can bind something like the usual "r" key to reload and have the option for special firing modes on the weapons.

NO. I don't wish to resort to screenshot hype, and the alt-fire reload system was unintuitive and crappy anyway. Not to mention using Action_Reload also makes my code a lot cleaner, which Lord knows really comes in handy for a guy like me (i.e. a guy that can't read his own code if he hasn't looked at it in a month).
