Quake's MDL format is simplistic and animates based on the positions of individual vertices (I think).chaoscentral wrote:but isnt condition zero and half life the same format, because they are essentially the same engine... I believe quake falls into that category as well
Half-Life's MDL format is based on skeletal animation.
Condition Zero (or Half-Life running under Steam) offers a few new features like detail textures, translucencies (I think?), and the like. Some modellers have taken advantage of the translucencies at least, making objects with faked specular highlighting.

I think the new model features you speak of are due to additions and changes to some of the rendering DLL's. I have some of the Steam Half-Life DLLs and I can play the old WON-edition of the game with models that were originally for the Steam version, ie they have translucency and other stuff like that. Anyway, sorry to get off subject.wildweasel wrote:Condition Zero (or Half-Life running under Steam) offers a few new features like detail textures, translucencies (I think?), and the like.
