Converting MLD to MD2?

I would like to convert the soldiers in the Half-Life High Resolution pack to MD2s because they suit my needs very well (of course they'll be re-skinned) in terms of futuristic soldiers with gas masks. Is it possible, and if so, has anyone converted these to MD2s?

You can convert the geometry over to MD3 (NO MD2S PLEASE, IT'S SUCH A SHITTY FORMAT) but you'd have to end up reanimating the model from scratch because the HL models use a skeletal animation format, which neither MD2 nor MD3 supports.
