Any news on GZDoom?

Advanced OpenGL source port fork from ZDoom, picking up where ZDoomGL left off.

Any news on GZDoom?

Post by Rachael »

Someone today asked me about the SVN builds of GZDoom. He asked when a new build would be released, and the only thing I could really tell him is we can't make a new build if the source is not updated.

I would be quite willing to update and help maintain the source myself; I think I can figure out how to merge the changes from ZDoom's source code into GZDoom, and can release source files based on that as well as test compile it to see if it works. I think at the very least though, I'd like to be able to give a better response than the one I gave.

So... is there any news on this?

Oops. I simply forgot to commit the last source update.

In any case, some help would be appreciated - but what I really could use is an experienced OpenGL programmer who has the motivation to spend some time on the engine to make some real improvements. The renderer hasn't seen the kind of development I would have liked in recent time because I rarely find more than an hour here and there to work on the Doom source but graphics changes inevitably take longer and me not being that experienced in this area made it all worse.

Unfortunately, this is something I'm not. It would take hours upon hours (which I don't have right now) playing with the source code and figuring things out before I ever got to the point where I could assist with this.

In that case, I'll start watching ZDoom and backporting changes and then posting the modified files for you, and see how that goes, if of course you don't beat me to it.

Merging ZDoom changes only takes a few minutes each time so you won't be able to help much there. It was just that I completely forgot to commit the last update I did a few days back.
