[FEATURE REQ] Same cheats in all games.

Post by nwbeeman »

I love DOOM, but recently i've decided to install Hexen, and use that IWAD with GZDoom. I wonder if an option could be added to allow a certin games cheats (like DOOM) to be reconized in hexen (if the game has an equivilinet). IDDQD would turn god on/off, NOCLIP would turn noclip on and off, and so on.

Use the console. Type in commands like "god" and "noclip". Infact there is a plethora of commands that act like cheat commands that can be used in the console.

Yea, I know, but if you are really into a game and want god mode on, iddqd is more of a natural reflex for someone who played doom in the dos days.

This would probably conflict with Heretic's cheats - for example, IDDQD and IDKFA both have effects in Heretic (IDDQD kills you, and IDKFA takes all your stuff).

lol, I remember trying that when I first played Heretic. Priceless expression: "WTF?! THATS AWESOME!!"

I suppose thats ravens way of saying "Haha, you tried a Doom cheat, now take this!" :P

Try this:

"bind g god"

You can bind the console cheats for on the fly use.

thats the exact reason i want it in there. Because the cheat 'keys' are in the GZDoom exe file, it could ignore that games cheats and put the doom ones in instead:

Heretic
IDDQD = God
IDKFA = All weapons, ammo and keys
IDSPISPOPD or NOCLIP = Noclip

If you look at my post before your post I explained you can bind console cheats. Infact I have noclip bound to the "c" key for when I am testing maps.

Why add something that is already in place via the console system? It would be a complete waste of both Randy's and Graf's time.

Something I do - I make aliases so that I can type known cheats at the console. So, I bring down the console, type the familar cheat and get the expected results. It's not quite the same as typing it straight into the game, but I can easily remember the various cheat aliases and I don't like having a bunch of keys bound to stuff in case I hit them accidentally.
