Anyone from the old ZDoom days, what was the "GROSS HACK" sprites used for. I seem to remember seeing it in a map or two.

Yes, they were originally put into the WAD as placeholders for an item that was going to act like the Hexen glitter bridge. This was before Zdoom supported Hexen. You can find them in Zdoom versions at least as far back as 1.17c. If you place an item with editnum 118 into a WAD you will see the grosshack graphics.

The item does not work like the Hexen bridge, but it is a bridge object. I can't remember all it's characteristics but I think it is around 32 units in radius and 4 in height. The sprites are drawn bright and cycle quite quickly - say 3 or 4 ticks each. I used to use it before the newer bridge objects were included in Zdoom. It was a way of doing the K2-bridge trick without having to use a dehacked patch. All you had to do was replace the sprites with something suitable (usually an invisible sprite).
