and a real processor

It isn't that bad. With a good graphics card it might even beat your system.

still it doesn't seem reasonable to dump $400+ into a video card and then pair it up with a celeron, it would be a major bottleneck to a 7800gt

This is without dynamic lights enabled on the first and with them on the second.

Windows XP Professional
Pentium III 600 Mhz
128 MB RAM
nVidia GeForce 4 MX440 64 MB

Got ~24 fps, I use 800x600 resolution (windowed). This isnt a good test though, I have this computer tweaked for maximum speed with its specs.

Windows XP Professional
Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz
512 MB DDR RAM
Mobility Radeon 9700 128 MB

Got 58-64 FPS still using 800x600 windowed.

And if he's doing that, the case may not be compatible, so change that too. Ummmm, what's left? ;)

Guess why I don't upgrade such parts anymore. When I decide it's time for something new it is best to replace everything and sell the old one. Even for my last one which I had to dump due to a defective motherboard or CPU I still got €250 for the rest of it (HD, RAM, CD-ROM and graphics card.)
