MidoriMan's Mods

Post by MidoriMan »

Well, I decided to form a journal to present any possible horror that escapes the light of day. So, here it is.

Anyway, I've begun work on tweaking around with DOOM's original weapons with DDF and decided to form a mod out of it. The working title: DOOMDDF.

DOOMDDF Progress:

-Just completed the Shotgun. Only replaced the pumping GFX and added an 8-shell reloading feature.
-The Pistol has not yet solidified. I've considered borrowing Cory Whittle's Beretta GFX Temporarily, at least.

Could you elaborate a bit more on DOOMDDF? It sounds interesting. I'm always willing to check out the work of an up and coming modder.

Basically, it's a mod that adds DDF features to the original DOOM weapons, and the inclusion of other weapons placed in the middle (IE Doom Style instead of the Duke3D Style).

Anyways, another update:

DOOMDDF:

-The shotgun includes a '12-gague grenade' that is utilized in the SEC_FIRE states, instead of a SPAS 12-esque semiauto firing originally planned for. The 'grenades' are individually picked up (replacing the solitary rocket) and are limited to eight (ala the Shotgun's clip size).

-Primary work on the SMG is in place, with basis on the 'MachineGun.wad' GFX and sounds, but shall be replaced with the original Alpha SMG GFX (Exept for brand new firing frames).

-As for the pistol, I've planned on tweaking either the original DOOM version, or the FreeDoom pistol.

-Grenade, clip, and casing DDF's for the aforemntioned weapons are mostly finished.

DOOMDDF:

- Finally, I have a Super Shotgun! Instead of the usual double-barreled, I've opted for a semi-auto based on the SPAS-12 (pump/auto) and the Saiga 12 (clip loading). It pumps a bit more quickly than the original, and there's also the semiauto secondary fire. Anyways, the only remaining things to work on are reloading frames and misc. DDF elements.

-The firing rates for the Pistol and SMG have been slowed down to lower overpowering and balance gameplay a little more. Also for the SMG, a 3-shot burst is added.

DoomDDF:

Currently, I'm taking a break from that wad. However, I've been working with WildWeasel on GFX for his "Nazis of Naberius" project.

DoomDDF: A slight revision of goal - This time the mod's goal involves the inclusion of real guns, along with some psuedo-fictional ones. One step in this dirrection involved replacing the SMG with an MP5 (based on a model ripped from a Quake III mod which shall recieve proper credit in the end).

The below screenshots are from the reloading sequence, which is very smooth ingame.

Please resize your screenshots using IrfanView or ImageShack instead of using these gargantuan 1024x768 screenshots...

The MP5 contained within does look kinda nice, if not a little bit skinny.

Oh yeah, sorry about that.

Yes, it is a bit on the skinny side. Mostly, it stems from a somewhat more realistic perspective.
