Why sky texture isn't stretched?

Advanced OpenGL source port fork from ZDoom, picking up where ZDoomGL left off.

Why sky texture isn't stretched?

Post by Alter »

Looks like sky texture is stretched only to half of a 360 sky view? it looks stupid when you see like your sky isn't stretched to full sky view!

this isn't stretched to full sky view like that

How should anyone do that with just a picture? Post your map and you might have more luck.

It's just a regular texture sky. What do you want it to do? Wrap around fully over the top and bottom of the sky? If so, I don't think you can do that with just a normal flat texture - even if it is big. I'm also not sure how well a 640x480 graphic is supposed to tile, but can't check ATM.

[edit]What's more, this sky graphic is always going to look shit because it doesn't tile properly anyway. The left and right sides of the graphic don't match up to each other. Why not grab yourself a proper 360 skybox? You might find something that takes your fancy here: http://www.zen64060.zen.co.uk/sbox.zip or go to the WADfather and maybe find something else you like http://wadfather.planethalflife.gamespy.com/new/ [/edit]

[rant]WTF is it with everyone around here posting stuff in rar archives? I think rar's are shit. OK their compression is marginally better. So what? This file is a whole 2KB smaller in a rar versus zip. Ooooh that saved a fraction of a second of download time. What it did mean though was I had to open it in shitty winrar and unpack it that way. Guess what. If it had been a zip I could have just opened it with GZdoom. We're editing for a game with native zip support yet people keep uploading rars. Even if I wanted to unpack the file, the OS that the game plays on has native zip support too and even with Winzip the unpacking is quicker and easier (IMO) than winrar. Rars are just awkward most of the time. Their compression improvements are minimal and, by the time you consider the entire click-to-download to playing-in-GZdoom time, they save me nothing at all.[/rant]

I strongly approve of your rant, Enjay. So, as a motivation not to use RAR anymore I think I'll remove all the links to RARs in the future. Sometimes you have to force people to adjust. ;)

To anyone:

Keep RARs for your personal amusement. For public distribution here they are not wanted!

Why the hell don't people like RAR's? It's not like they're actually worse than ZIP's...sure, you need a new program to open them, but in this day and age, you ought to have such a program on your system anyway. It's not like 7-Zip costs money (it can easily open RAR's).

ZIP's don't need any extra software in Windows and GZdoom has native ZIP support. It's a different issue for RARs.

(That said, 7zip is my primary archiver)

See, that's the problem. You need an extra program to open them! And since some people here just don't get it some persuasion by force seems to be in order. It works for /idgames as well.

For example, I regularly use certain file comparison tools. All work fine with files insize Zips but each time I encounter a RAR I have to unpack it first to work with the contents. The same applies to certain other software. I can keep my Zips around with rarely a need to unpack them at all. RAR is only good as an archive format but for nothing else.
