Metal Doom - Journal

Post by Betanol »

Betanol productions proudly presents another PWAD made by me

It's Metal Doom, a Zdoom/GZdoom single player wad that will have about 20 levels of pure heavy metal experience. All maps has ACS interference (in game talks, complex doors and much more).

The plot is simple, but still exists:
After the Doom and Doom II events 5 years has passed. You was sent to a space base located in orbit of Tau 1 Eridani planet, in the Zeta Reticuli planetary system. After some romours of aliens appearing in UAC installations at Tau 1 Eridani, you are forced to mount a 24h watch at the space base. After your enormous turn ends you are exausted and every thing you want is a nice and clean bed. After dropping yourself at the bed, you turn on your all new UAC MP3 player and the Heavy Metal experience beggins! You immediately falls asleep. You beggin dreaming of past missions you had at 54 Piscium, a plenet near Tau 1 Eridani that was infested by hell minions and other missions you had in the past, back on Deimos, and Earth as well. Then suddenly you are having a terrible nightmare and you wakes up and discover that the space base is being attacked. Since the communications has been screwed up by the minion's attack, your stupid ass commander send you to Tau 1 Eridani to find a way to contact UAC in Earth to send help. But the infestation already beggined at Tau 1 Eridani and you will have to kill all those bastards to survive and contact Earth. And, of course, with your MP3 on, because you only work right with some Heavy Metal up your ass! ;)
So, what's new?:

-Kick ass heavy metal tracks
-ACS, DECORED, GFX, POLYJOB and etc!
-After waking up part (Space base and beyond): All GZdoom has to offer (3DFloors, Dynamic lights, and much more)
-New guns (they are all from WRW.wad)

I'm planning to put some high-res skyboxes in the space base map, but i dunno how to do it, because the Doom2 pallete screws high res pictures up.

I will post some screenshots and more details later, hope you guys like it!

That's it! :)

I have some slots free if someone would like to make a map for it, I would be glad. And if anyone would like to help me with some DECORATE or anything too.

Thanks!

Well... I'd be lying if I said it looks great, but it does look fairly interesting (obviously you haven't got round to thing placement yet) and the idea sounds quite good, though really ambitious. Heavy Metal is a plus for some (myself included) but I have to wonder... how are you getting that on the game? If it's commercial MP3s that's illegal.

Some of this looks pretty good, some of it doesn't. I'll try to describe some of the weaknesses I see later. This is still in the early stages, so it's quite possible to tweak some of the levels.

The only screenshots that look decent are the Map06 ones. Everything else really doesn't look too great. And here's a little tip, don't use that CRATOP flat as a ground like that. It really doesn't look good.

CRATOP is the most sand like texture I have. I dont like the sand flats i have. It looks more like a beach than a desert. If you have any ideas plz help me then.

And BTW the wad only gets real after the map 06.

Imo RROCK09 is the best one to use as sand or try to find an custom flat that looks even better CRATOP looks plain ugly.

Just for the record, I don't think if anybody realized it but I gave up on reporting my progresses in this forum..

It did not get, uh how can I put it... Grip, you know?

Later, if I get some feedback here (if people are somewhat interested here) I will make some report on what's new.

Thank You very much the guys who helped me here..
