A source of models?

Post by Enjay »

Does anyone know of a good place to grab some models for inserting into GZdoom?

I've downloaded all the Doom/Heretic/Hexen/Strife models I could find, as well as the Duke Nukem Hi-Res pack (cool stuff in there), all of Wim Sitters levels and model packs (some good stuff again) and trawled through games like HL, MoHAA, RtCW, Q3A, Q3Rally, Q2, Q, UT and Jedi Knight 1&2 (I think that's about it) and yet I still want more. ;) I know the real answer is to make some of my own (and I will get around to it) but ATM I'm just having fun loading up models to see what they look like in game. I'm mainly interested in static decorations (pillars, torches, statues, mugs, bottles, techy stuff, lights etc) with only a frame or two because I can quickly load them up and have a look, maybe edit them a bit and then try something else.

The easiest formats for me to deal with are MD2 and MD3, but Milkshape can load many formats, so I'm not limited to those. An ideal thing for me to find would be a website called "www.all_ the_map_objects_you_ever_wanted_in_one_place_in_MD3_format.com" and, believe me, I have looked - and found surprisingly little - so I was just wondering if anyone knew of good sources for stuff.

Thanks.

http://au.conitec.net/ has free game props but you'll have to import them into Milkshape as Gamestudio A5 MDL or Gamestudio MDL7 format (try either one).

Some other resources:

http://www.3dcafe.com/
http://archive3d.net/
http://www.3drt.com/ - there's a free section, but most of the nicer stuff has to be bought, and are quite expensive because they are current-gen quality.
http://www.huntfor.com/3d/links.htm - links look quite extensive...

I downloaded the Quake 3 mod "Urban Terror" recently and trawling through its resources, I found "BlackRayne" getting credited for a number of the models used in it. I checked their site and found 200MB of models, many of which are exactly the kind of thing that I was looking for. They are all free to download and you can use them, with credits, in your own projects. Worth checking. I've just finished downloading the lot and looking through them. Loads of potential map objects in there.

Very nice find, Enjay. BlackRayne's props are very useful for throwing together a quick 3-d scene in GZDoom. I wish he had some animated characters though...
