Has anybody created reflective or shiny surface shaders?

Has anybody created shiny texture shaders or surface reflection shaders? I'm currently implementing reflective floor planes for creating submersible water with a reflective surface, but naturally I would like to keep the framerate down. A shiny texture for metallic surfaces would also be of interest. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks. :)
