scroll a certain part of a 360skybox?

Post by BlazingPhoenix »

Could this be possible to add? it'd make 360 skyboxes look a tad nice.

Or just make a custom skybox the oldschool way? In my opinion, this doesn't warrrent a feature request, Also I don't like the fact it's a "I need this for my map" instead of a 'this could be useful to people' request.

I'm just taking a guess, but wouldn't scrolling only one side of a skybox look horrible? Maybe it depends on the skybox.

Actually it wouldn't make the skybox look bad, for instance like when you have a skybox that looks like a sky over a mountain, you could scroll the sky part of it with out scrolling the mountain at the same time.

Yes, but you couldn't do that with a 360 skybox because it would mean moving some pixels on a graphic an not others. The way to go is a traditional camera skybox. Remember, there's no reason not to use hi-res and hi-colour graphics in that these days.

Hmmm.... thinks.... If you really need to, you could maybe animate one face of a skybox. Would that work or do the individual panels not get treated separately for such a purpose when defined as a skybox using gldefs?

Build a custom skybox for something like that! Sheesh, here, I built you a skyobx, example of how to do it. You not need features to do it (also included are 32 bit clouds. Zomg)

I second what Chopkinsca said concerning features, not only in KoF's case, but overal.

Say Graf..what do you think about this? It'd make some skys look nice, like skies with cloud parts in it, and you could scroll those and nothing else would scroll.

Being nice and being doable are 2 different things.

This would be useless for almost all 3D skyboxes, as the top texture usually contains some part of all the sides.

And the sides usually contain some part of the top too.
