Extra Death states?

Post by DD_133 »

Is it possible to somehow code in extra death states that can be caused by a certain weapon? Like if you had melting sprites, and you killed an enemy with the plasma gun, it would display said melting sprites. How hard would this be to code into the source?

Randy is already working on that for 2.1.0.

(He announced that ages ago, though)

And as we all know, ZDoom hasn't seen any real update for more than 13 months now (I don't count the bugfests 2.0.97 and 2.0.98 as updates.)

Full custom death states are a thing of the future, but there is support for a limited number of built in ones already. So, for example, you could make a fire damage plasma shot and define fire death states that looked like the victim was melting.
You cursed brat. Look what you've done. I'm melting! Melting! ...Oh, what a world! What a world! Who would have thought a good little girl like you could destroy my beautiful wickedness? Oh no! I'm going... oh... oh...

Enjay, yes, i've heard such from Kaiser and others, however I plan to have many different weapon induced death states, like the shotgun have many holes in the death sprite, or pistol just one. Hence why I asked. It would be nice if Randy would hurry up and code in official weapon support and other things, it has been awhile.

Graf Zahl, do you plan on adding such weapon state induced coding in the future?

Ah, in that case you will need custom states. AFAIK, Graf plans on keeping GZdoom in step with Zdoom but he doesn't want to do code that will just have to be redone when the Zdoom version is released. So I suspect it will be added, but not until it's available in Zdoom.

If Randy is going to do this I doubt graf is going to bother coding anything different and cause conflicts when Randy releases a new version.

Which is why it bothers me that most of the future doom development relies on that one person!! :banghead:

Agent Spork said somehow, somewhere at sometime it was possible for the user to put in new states. I'll look into this, and probably the source zode of Zdoom/GZDoom as well, to see what I can pull up. Thanks for the help, all

I believe it was grubber's version of zdoom but I never saw the release of those features.
